| Review: First up (and hear) ... this movie will not appeal to the crash-bang-wallop-attention span-of-a-dull-ods teams out there. After reading lots of reviews on here, everyone seems to be divided into two parts. Love it ... hate that. Which way do you go? Yes, it is long. But let's face so that it is the movie that can be turned into an hour and a half. There are an awful lot of detail involved in this case. David Fincher was very thorough in his research and full marks to him. This is a great, great movie for all who are interested in true crime and detective work.I saw this movie a few hours ago, and became completely engrossed in it. Opening July 4 sequence is worth the ticket price alone. And I urge everyone to listen to Hurdy Gurdy Man by Donovan but a cold chill run down my spine after seeing this ... Main performances are excellent - Robert Downey Jr. and Jake Gyllenhaal in particular, is a standout. Any feminist out there tend to be satisfied with a rather one-dimensional women's roles (and I happen to be a woman), but that's not what this movie is about. The mens just forced engagement with a cause. And these people are totally obsessed. And after so much haunted by a sign with his letters and Cyphers, who can blame them for their obsession? As a depiction of the murder, they are quite shocking in its short brutality with absolutely no glamorous or overly lingering effects shots. This makes them infinitely more real and much more disturbing ... Combine this with a completely believable dialogue, good sound and great stage design, and you have a stylish film. For anyone who is tired of your average eye candy and brain lining ... Go see them. For those who can not appreciate class act when you see it, you have missed ... |
