| Review: Gangs of New York brings us back to a time when America is a young country and New York was divided. Those who think they were born in the United States do not want immigrants to enter their great country, growing hatred between groups throughout the city, where many of them land. In history we see how the city is run by a man with cutting William (Bill butcher, magnificently played by Daniel Day-Lewis) is the most feared and respected man of five Points.Leonardo DiCaprio plays Amsterdam Valon, who as a boy was staring butcher kill his father in one of the major points battles. Now a grown man, he returns to find points was pretty much running the show. He gets good hand records and eventually becomes his number one man, as a whole while still plot has many fathers revenge.While unreasonable violence and gore, the film does a great job portraying what life was such in New York. You may be drawn to throughout the film, even though the setting was long before our time, you do not need a manual to understand how to manage work and what life was never been a big fan like.Ive DiCaprio but his efforts here (along with the performance of Catch Me If You Can) made my opinion start moving a little. He is as good as Amsterdam and probably in his actions and expressions. Daniel Day-Lewis is simply phenomenal as was a butcher and really had to win the best actor Oscar. Overall, I feel that it is the best film of 2002 and I was robbed at the Academy Awards.8 out of 10. |
